About
Cryptogenomicon is by Sean Eddy. I'm a computational biologist at Harvard University, where I'm currently the chair of the Department of Molecular & Cellular Biology. I'm also a member of Applied Mathematics in our School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
A lot of what I write on the blog is about the research we're doing, and about the research tools we develop in the lab for biological sequence analysis -- most notably, HMMER and Infernal, which are software suites used for identifying distant evolutionary relationships between protein, RNA, and DNA sequences.
